Yoga from the Heart

This week long yoga retreat will teach you new way of living by focusing on how to open the heart energy centre (anahata chakra). The heart is the vehicle for the expression of love, and when the heart energy is open you live your life from a place of joy, trust and compassion. The practices will include asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), meditation and yogic philosophy. You will learn simple and practical practices that you can take home with you and apply in your everyday life. The retreat caters for all levels.

Donna Gianniotis is Sydney based and is internationally accredited with the Krishnamacharya Healing &Yoga Foundation. She has experience with teaching all levels and capabilities, including Yoga Therapy. She teaches in a way that the practice is adapted to the individual person’s needs and goals. This is the second year that Donna will be running a retreat at Daku Resort.

Donna first discovered yoga after a trip to India 10 years ago. She completed her Yoga Teacher Training at Nature Care College in Sydney and has since continued ongoing studies with Michael de Manincor at Yoga Sanga and with the Krishnamacharya Yoga and Healing Foundation including studies in Chennai, India. Her teaching includes a focus on adapting the practice to suit the individual, the breath, vinyasa, yogic philosophy and teaches tapping into the ‘feeling sense’ to connect to the heart energy. Donna has been teaching in Sydney for many years as well as at holiday destination places such as Lord Howe Island and Hayman Island. Having recently experienced the benefits of Acu Energetics (Accurate Energy Medicine) after her own cancer journey, she is currently studying to become a Practitioner in this modality and uses these teachings in her yoga.

The Programme
The programme is based on two daily sessions of yoga and meditation: a morning practice from 7.30 – 9am, and another practice in the late afternoon /early evening from 4.45pm – 6.30pm. There will also be time allocated for each person to have 2 x half-hour private class with Donna in which you may wish to have a personal practise designed for you to take home. Classes include a focus on the breath, alignment and yogic philosophy. The rest of the day is for relaxing and enjoying yourself – snorkelling on the reef, taking a local excursion or just reading by the pool.
