Welcome to Yoga in Fiji

At Daku Resort, we have pioneered yoga retreats in Fiji, establishing a broad and exciting schedule teachers and yoga styles. We bring teachers from Australia, the US and New Zealand, and offer many different yoga practices such as classical hatha, Iyengar, Anusara – plus exciting new variations like Nia.

We welcome all ages and abilities; our youngest student was 12 and our oldest to date was 82. Our teachers generally accommodate all stages within their retreats – read about their particular practice on their individual webpage and ask us if you have any questions about the suitability of a particular class.

Every retreat’s daily schedule is built around two practices, each one lasting about an hour and a half to two hours. All the teachers have their own programme, and some choose to add an evening meditation or even a one-on-one private practice. Most hold an early morning practice and a late afternoon practice – but have a look at their individual page as they vary. And every yoga retreat offers a free half hour spa massage.

Yoga in Fiji - Yoga Retreats

We have the first – and only – purpose built yoga shala in the South Pacific, a beautiful open-sided platform built up amongst the trees with a stunning view over the bay. Built from the wood of trees on our property, the shala was opened by Mark Whitwell in 2009 in a special ceremony. In the mornings the sun rises to the east, and in the evening you can watch it dipping below the mountains on the far side of Savusavu Bay.

It provides a place of great tranquillity, and is often used by other resort guests as a place of quiet contemplation and rest when there is no yoga practice is session. It is a wonderful environment for yoga, a cocoon of serenity within the greater space of this haven of peace.

The platform measures 10 metres by 10 metres and takes up to 25 people. (We can fit in more although space starts to become restricted.) It has a roof, and a solid back wall suitable for support for handstands. And a view out over the palm trees and across the water to still the mind for the final shivasana of the day….
